Social media is on just about everyone’s radar these days. With more and more companies, organizations and individuals getting social online, there’s more need than ever for top quality training and education, to help people navigate the digital world more effectively.
In 2010, Algonquin College created the Social Media Certificate Program. It’s an accredited program, one of the first of its kind in Ontario. Two years later, enrollment is rising at a rapid pace.
The program is made up of 5 courses:
- Introduction to Social Media
- Developing a Social Media Strategy
- Monitoring and Measurement
- Digital Communication
- Applied Social Media in Business
The goal of the program is to provide learners with hands-on experience in developing and implementing effective social media plans across various different industries. The emphasis is on building comprehensive strategies that leverage popular social media tools, incorporating digital communication techniques and best practices. The program also covers the ever-important area of monitoring and measurement of social media activities, from buzz and sentiment monitoring to effective measurement of ROI.
There are three different delivery methods for the program; online, hybrid and accelerated. The fully online courses run 14 weeks and incorporate lesson work, written and video assignments, and a unique online community specifically designed for students of the program, where they can write blog posts, interact, and share what they are learning. Hybrid courses include 3 hours per week in class at the Woodroffe Campus, and 3 hours per week online. The Accelerated program, new this year, is a full time, 5 week intensive program.
